SCDP Chair Blasts Trump’s MAGA Economic Agenda Ahead of Visit Tomorrow
Press Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ahead of Donald Trump’s visit to Pickens tomorrow, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain held a press call blasting the failed president for his failed economic agenda that left South Carolinians behind during his administration, and will leave them behind again if he makes it back into the White House.
Read highlights from the Chair’s remarks below:
- “I won’t mince my words here. Donald Trump was a failed president whose record left working South Carolinians behind. Legislation like his 2017 tax law, or what I like to call the GOP Tax Scam, left many South Carolinians with higher taxes during the April filing time. Trump promised this Scam would be “big” for the middle class. But instead of helping working families, it rigged the economy for the rich by providing tax giveaways to the wealthiest Americans and corporations while shipping American jobs overseas.”
- “In his very first budget, Trump tried to get rid of the Appalachian Regional Commission, a group of agencies that supports economic development in South Carolina. One of South Carolina’s Appalachian counties? Pickens, where Trump will be this weekend.”
- “In the past two and a half years, we’ve seen an incredible shift away from Trump’s failed trickle-down policies under President Joe Biden. President Biden believes that the best way to grow the economy is to grow the middle class. That’s why we’re behind him.”
- “The bottom line is this: we already know what Donald Trump’s MAGA control looks like. When he arrives in Pickens tomorrow, don’t expect anything new. What you can expect is more of the same dangerous election conspiracies, culture wars, and pandering to the MAGA base – but no solutions to actually help working people. Donald Trump has never put the American people first… This dangerous economic agenda isn’t just coming from Trump, it’s representative of the entire field of MAGA republicans. We won’t waste any time in making sure voters know exactly what’s on their true agenda.”
