New Leader at South Bay at Mount Pleasant and Shem Creek Health Center

‘Upbeat,’ ‘positive role model,’ ‘great manager.’ These are terms used to describe the leadership qualities of Joseph Carr (above). Earlier this spring, the resident of Mt. Pleasant was named as campus director for South Bay at Mount Pleasant. In this capacity, he also serves as the administrator for the attached Shem Creek Health Center. South Bay at Mount Pleasant is a luxury rental senior living community.

Carr has extensive experience working with older adults, going back to his middle school years. He was an active volunteer at a senior living community in Ohio, where his mother worked as a nurse. “I grew up in the industry and continued to volunteer through high school,” he says.

After earning a degree in business administration and marketing at the University of Toledo, Carr was encouraged by a colleague of his mother’s to train for a nursing home administrator license. Having already had so many positive experiences in the industry, Carr immediately agreed. He spent almost a year working in every department of the senior living community and preparing for the licensing test.

Since earning his license, Carr has continued to gain responsibility and experience, most recently as an executive director at a senior living community.

Carr is thrilled to be at South Bay at Mount Pleasant, a beautiful and vibrant community that focuses on promoting the independence, health and well-being of all residents. He says that in the two months he’s been there, he is most proud of “inspiring the staff to ‘walk in the shoes of the resident’ so that respect and a caring approach are executed every time, every day.” Carr adds, “We are well on our way to establishing an environment full of fun and built on a strong foundation of trust, respect and open communication.”

Carr’s team members with whom he works are excited to have him as their inspirational leader.

Theresa O’Quinn, health information manager says that she already sees Carr’s impact in the “positive environment which he’s created. It helps you want to be your best, not only for yourself but for the staff, residents, and their families. Joe’s personality is upbeat. In a short time, the team here has taken on the same characteristics as their leader.”

There are team members with whom Carr has formerly worked who followed him to his role at South Bay at Mount Pleasant. Santino Tedesco, admissions and marketing director, says Carr recognizes everyone’s qualities and “helps them become the best version of themselves. This means that residents and families are receiving the best care. Working beside Carr again ignites my passion and inspires me to be my best. He promotes my confidence to positively impact each resident’s ability to live life fully.”
