Press Release

The Dorchester School District Two (DDTwo) Board of Trustees met June 26, 2023, and approved the hiring of Mr. Maurice Cannon, Sr. as Substitute and Professional Development Administrator.

Mr. Cannon joins DDTwo with 21 years of experience in education. Most recently serving as Principal of Colleton County High School in Walterboro, South Carolina, his previous roles include middle and high school principal as well as district administrator. Recognized as a “Turnaround Principal,” Mr. Cannon’s leadership transformed a school from facing state takeover to demonstrating significant improvement on the South Carolina State Report Card in just two years. His positive influence cultivated environments in which students, faculty, and staff felt appreciated and heard by their school leader.

Mr. Cannon received his bachelor’s degree in English from South Carolina State University and his master’s and educational specialist degrees in Educational Leadership from The Citadel.

“I am very excited and honored to be among the most dynamic educators in the Lowcountry,” said Mr. Cannon. “Dorchester School District Two is positively changing the lives of our students and the future of South Carolina.”

Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins said, “Mr. Cannon is a great fit for Team Dorchester. With experience as a building principal he understands the importance of collaboration and building partnerships. This experience will assist the district in advancing our mission of leading the way, every student, every day, through relationships, relevance, and rigor.”
