New Study: South Carolina Caregivers No. 3 Most Burned Out in Nation

Published

on

A new study says South Carolina caregivers are the 3rd most burned out in their profession in the nation. The rankings came from Seniorly, a company that helps families and older adults find senior living communities, and used the most recent data from the Census Bureau, CDC, Alzheimer’s Association and the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The website says multiple factors were analyzed such as multigenerational households, Alzheimer’s disease, long-term care workers, age dependency ratio, and health issues reported by caregivers.

A few metrics that led to South Carolina’s ranking show 46.8% of caregivers report having two chronic health conditions and 18% are mentally distressed. Alzheimer’s is expected to increase by 26.3% by 2025 and 3.3% of homes are multigenerational.

The top 10 states for caregiver burnout are Florida, Arizona, South Carolina, Georgia, Delaware, Texas, Tennessee, Idaho, Hawaii, and Louisiana. Notably, six of the top 10 are southern states.
