Back To School DAE: Lowcountry Students Invited to Shoot Hoops and Score Free School Supplies and More
The DAE Foundation invites Lowcountry students to a free Back to School event on Sunday, August 13th, 2023, from 2 pm to 4 pm at the St. Andrew’s Parks & Playground Basketball Gym at 1095 Playground Road in West Ashley. There will be free school supplies distributed to students to help fill their backpacks for the upcoming school year.
Paisano’s Pizza is providing free pizza, and the DAE Foundation’s Jermel President will lead a basketball open-gym shoot around for attending students. A gently-used sporting equipment swap will be set up to help residents pass along their out-grown shoes, bats, gloves, balls, bats, racquets, and more to students in need of new items.
“We’re excited to get the school year started out right by helping check some of those school supply items off the ‘to-buy list’ while having some fun on the court,” said President, DAE Foundation Founder and Executive Director. “The sporting equipment swap will help close some of those barriers to participation by getting our student athletes geared up for the season.”
Supporting the event through school supply donations from their staff, Charleston County Department of Public Safety volunteer educators will also be on hand to educate the community about public safety related to fire safety, medical safety, natural disasters, the criminal justice system, and to introduce career opportunities in the field.
The community is asked to donate school supplies and gently-used sporting equipment to contribute to the effort. Drop off locations are at all Barrelli Barber, Stella Nova, and Paisano’s Pizza locations.
Additionally, there will be a gently-used sports equipment swap.
“Kids outgrow their shoes, gloves, clothes, all of it so fast,” President said. “This is a great way to clean out those closets, and give to those who need it while getting something that you may need in return.”
Tax-deductible donations can be made the day of the event between 1 pm to 2 pm at the St. Andrew’s Parks & Playground Basketball Gym at 1095 Playground Road in West Ashley. The event is open to school age children and families from 2 pm to 4 pm.
