Mayor John Tecklenburg, Charlamagne Tha God to Open 11th Annual Lowcountry Mental Health Conference
Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and radio and TV personality Charlamagne Tha God (above) will deliver opening remarks for the 11th annual Lowcountry Mental Health Conference (LMHC), set to begin at 8:30 am on Thursday, July 27th, in the Gaillard Center Performance Hall, located at 95 Calhoun Street.
In addition to welcoming this year’s attendees, Charlamagne will discuss the Mental Wealth Alliance, a nonprofit he founded in 2021 to destigmatize mental health challenges and increase access to treatment in Black communities nationwide.
Set for July 26th to 28th at the Gaillard Center, the three-day LMHC will feature 23 renowned mental health experts, including: NY Times Bestselling Author Anne Lamott, Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University Lisa Feldman Barrett Ph.D., internationally acclaimed grief and loss expert Joanne Cacciatore Ph.D., and President and CEO of the International African American Museum Tonya M. Matthews Ph.D.
Additionally, the Lowcountry Mental Health Conference will include an Exhibit Hall of 90+ organizations displaying a wide range of mental health information and resources, and will conclude with a performance by acclaimed country and rock fusion band Wild Ponies.
Considered one of the most prestigious and impactful mental health conferences on the East Coast, the conference will welcome up to 1,700 in-person attendees and an unlimited number of virtual participants.
“We’re grateful to Mayor Tecklenburg for his unwavering support of the Lowcountry Mental Health Conference, and for introducing Charlamagne to our work,” said David Diana, LMHC Director. “We look forward to welcoming them – along with all of our remarkable attendees and speakers – later this month.”
