Palma, Barajas, Williams Selected to USLC Team of the Week for Week 20

The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery players Juan Sebastian Palma, Fidel Barajas and Augi Williams were named to the league’s Week 20 Team of the Week.

Each member of the trio contributed to a goal in the Battery’s 3-1 victory over league-leaders Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

Palma set the tone for the night by opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a pinpoint header off Fidel Barajas’ corner kick. The Colombian defender’s goal was his first of the season and the first of his professional career. Palma additionally recorded five duels won, nine recoveries, three clearances and two interceptions.

Barajas tallied two assists in the first half to bring his season total to seven, the most in the league. His first came on the corner kick to Palma and the second was from a skillful flick to Augi Williams just before halftime. The Mexican youth international also led the match with four chances created. It is his second Team of the Week selection of 2023.

Williams scored his 10th goal of the year, across all competitions, as a result of the constant pressure he applied up top for the Battery. The Sierra Leone international wasn’t credited for an assist, but his saved shot set up Beto Avila’s goal off the rebound to put the game out of reach. It is his third Team of the Week selection of the season.

The nods bring the Battery’s Team of the Week selections to 21, the most in the league.

Charleston will look to build upon their four-match unbeaten run in their next game, on Sat., July 29, on the road against Birmingham Legion FC.
