Manny Houston to Headline Art of Jazz at Gibbes Museum
Local musician Manny Houston will headline this year’s Art of Jazz series. The event is presented by Charleston Jazz and the Gibbes Museum of Art and features concerts of original music inspired by works on display at the Gibbes.
Friends and fans have followed Houston’s artistic endeavors from Disney to New York City’s Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation, and then off to Los Angeles for recording and songwriting opportunities, followed by a Broadway tour with Freestyle Love Supreme. Add to that work with Rockapella and an appearance on the hit TV show Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Houston has truly become a voice for Charleston on the world stage.
Houston, along with his bandmates Stachia Simmons on drums (of Momentum & Sta.La.V and The Tribe) and Mike Quinn (of Doom Flamingo) on saxophone, will headline the grand finale of the Art of Jazz series on August 16th at 6 pm at the Gibbes Museum of Art. This is a rare opportunity to experience Houston’s performance in an intimate, up-close setting. Musical selections are new, original compositions inspired by works on display at the museum.
