The Charleston Battery continue their road trip to take on Detroit City FC on Saturday, August 1th. Kickoff at Keyworth Stadium is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Charleston and Detroit square off again after playing to a scoreless draw at Patriots Point back in June. Detroit lead the current series with two wins and a draw against the Battery, a mark that Charleston will look to exact retribution for this weekend.

The Battery (11W-6L-7D, 40 pts) enter Saturday’s contest following a 1-1 draw on the road against Louisville City FC on Wednesday. Emilio Ycaza scored an equalizer late in the second half to steal the Battery a point. Leland Archer put the ball in the back of the net in the final minute of stoppage time, but a foul was called that chalked it off to the confusion of the squad and staff.

Detroit (6W-16L-3D, 21 pts) head into the match following a two-week pause in action. Their latest test was against Oakland Roots SC on the road, a 1-1 draw on July 29. Both goals came in the opening five minutes of the match and the scoreline would hold from there. Stephen Carroll grabbed the equalizer for Detroit to split the points.

A player to watch for Charleston is Augi Williams. The Sierra Leone international is the Battery’s top scorer across all competitions (10) and will look to add to his total for the first time since the July 22 win over Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

One to keep an eye on for Detroit is Nathan Steinwascher. The veteran shot-stopper has been a mainstay for Detroit and is vital to their robust defense.

This weekend’s contest has the potential to be a notable one for Charleston’s Ben Pirmann and Deklan Wynne, who was head coach of Detroit from 2013 to 2018 and a defender for Detroit in 2021, respectively.

Don’t let Detroit’s position of 10th in standings fool you, the side has been hitting their stride in recent games and are undefeated in their last three contests, including victories over Louisville and Monterey Bay FC.

The Battery have been road warriors for the summer portion of the schedule and the game against Detroit will be the second of three consecutive away days for the Battery this month.

Fidel Barajas added his eighth assist of the season on Wednesday, the most in the USL Championship.

Trey Muse heads into Saturday’s game holding the sixth-most saves this year (62).
