State Senate Candidate Deon Tedder Announces Education Policy Proposal

Deon Tedder, a candidate for State Senate District 42, today announced his education policy proposal, which includes increased funding for public schools, teacher pay raises, expanded access to early childhood education, and partnerships with corporations to bring back “trades” in schools. 

“I strongly believe that education is the key to a better future for our children and our state,” Tedder said. “As a candidate for State Senate District 42, I am committed to advocating for policies that will improve our public schools and make it easier for teachers to teach.” 

Tedder’s proposal includes the following: 

• Increased funding for public schools: Tedder will fight to increase state funding for public schools by 10% per year for the next 5 years. This funding will be used to repair aging buildings, purchase new textbooks and technology, and hire more teachers.
• Teacher pay raises: Tedder will support teacher pay raises and professional development opportunities. He believes that teachers and education support professionals are the backbone of our education system, and they deserve to be compensated fairly for their hard work.
• Expanded access to early childhood education: Tedder is committed to expanding access to early childhood education programs, including universal pre-K and kindergarten. Early childhood education is one of the best investments we can make in our children’s future. It helps them develop the skills they need to succeed in school and in life.
• Partnerships with corporations to bring back “trades” in schools: Tedder believes that we need to bring back “trades” in schools so students can develop the skills they need to go straight into the workforce. He will help develop partnerships with corporations like Boeing, Mercedes, Volvo and local high schools to implement skills-based trade programs. This would give students more options after high school, helping them get good-paying jobs without having to attend college.
• Policies to reduce the burden of student loan debt: Tedder will promote policies to reduce the burden of student loan debt for college graduates. Student loan debt is a major financial burden for many young people, and it is holding many back from buying a home, starting a business, and saving for retirement. Tedder will work to make college more affordable and to provide relief for borrowers who are struggling to repay their loans.

“I am committed to fighting for a better education for all South Carolinians,” Tedder said. “I believe these policies will make a real difference in the lives of our children and our state.”
