Team of Women Win Golf Tournament Supporting Women in Recovery
Press Release
As a stroke of fate, a ladies team won the 1st Annual Bright Spot Sober Living Golf Tournament, which supports women in recovery from Substance Use Disorder. Braylee Wright, Anleigh Wright, Chayse Cool, Megan Leland won the August 14 tournament, which had a Captain’s Choice format at Crowfield Golf Club in Goose Creek. One of these ladies also won the longest drive competition with a 278 yard drive. These ladies were teammates at Stratford High School in Goose Creek.
While the 20-team tournament was a fundraiser for Bright Spot Sober Living in Charleston, the tournament was also an opportunity to bring awareness to the needs of those in recovery from Substance Use Disorder. Bright Spot gives women a safe and supportive place to start their recovery journey and believes in genuine understanding, support, structure, and accountability. The Bright Spot houses were created with love and compassion, with a main goal to help women cultivate a new life for themselves.
“This tournament was a huge success,” said Nicole Bonnema, Executive Director/Co-Founder, Bright Spot Sober Living. “We had lots of fun, and were able to raise a substantial amount of funds that will directly benefit the women that we serve. I have to say though, my favorite part of the day was watching these young ladies win the entire tournament. We absolutely cannot wait until next year and hopefully have double the fun.”
Christi Phillips, Board of Directors President, Bright Spot Sober Living, added, “Our inaugural golf tournament was a success because of the exceptional engagement of our sponsors, volunteers and Crowfield’s team, under direction of Head Golf Professional Bobby Donnellan.”
The golf tournament included a $10,000 Hole-in-One competition, Longest Drive and Closest-to-the-Pin competitions, 50/50 raffle, raffle with prizes, BBQ sandwich lunch and swag bags. As a special addition, each bag included a handwritten note from a Bright Spot resident expressing their appreciation for the players’ support of women in recovery.
