Daniel Brownstein Files for Mount Pleasant Town Council
Daniel Brownstein (above) today announced that he has officially filed to run for Mount Pleasant Town Council and will appear on the November 7th ballot.
Brownstein, 42, is a married father of two who works as the marketing director at the law firm Rogers, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman in Mount Pleasant.
He says his priorities are “to implement traffic solutions for persistent road and transportation problems; address public safety concerns, including the low salaries of emergency responders and the need for reliable firetrucks and safety equipment; and improve the quality of life for all residents.” He also says he plans to expand public access to natural resources, support local arts initiatives, and improve recreational opportunities.
“I will work hard to improve our quality of life by focusing on the issues that really matter: traffic solutions, public safety and making sure our residents have access to fantastic amenities for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
His education includes a Masters of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in communication from Otterbein University. Previously he worked as communications director for the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Beaufort, SC, and as a newspaper reporter who covered police, courts and local governments.
“My experience as a newspaper reporter for seven years taught me the importance of holding local government officials accountable,” Brownstein said. “My experience with the Solicitor’s Office gave me an inside perspective on public safety issues, and my experience working with lawyers taught me the fundamentals of the nuanced legal system. Together, these experiences form a unique skill set and a well-rounded perspective that will help me make informed decisions as an elected official.”
He also served two terms on the Charleston County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, was a board member for the nonprofit South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCADVASA) for five years, and a founding member of the nonprofit Lowcountry Coalition Against Human Trafficking. He also served as the president of his neighborhood’s Homeowners Association for the past three years.
