The Miller Gallery & Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim to Present Solo Exhibition by Charleston Artist Scot Rittenbaum

On September 28th, from 6 pm to 8 pm, The Miller Gallery and Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim will host a solo exhibition by Charleston artist, Scot Rittenbaum.

Rittenbaum is a self-taught artist who has created paintings and drawings off and on for many years while helping raise his family in Atlanta, GA as a professional in both the business and non-profit worlds. In August of 2019, Rittenbaum and his wife relocated to Charleston to live close to family and to begin his new career as a full-time artist. Undoubtedly the journey his family traversed in their eldest daughter’s valiant and graceful experiences in the worlds of cystic fibrosis, double lung transplant, and her passing – and the many, many ways it impacted their lives as individuals and as a family – contributes to the foundational soul of his art.

Working primarily with acrylics, oil sticks, and oil pastels on canvas, panel, and paper, Rittenbaum applies these media with both abandon and thoughtful application. Often, paintings undergo several iterations as the work evolves and moves to completion. Because life is raw and not always finely finished, Rittenbaum sometimes incorporates small areas where the raw surface remains visible. This is a nod to both the reality and beauty of life as we experience it in humankind and nature.

The public exhibition will be on display at the Barbara Pearlstine Social Hall at KKBE from September 8th through October 4th. Viewing hours and private tours will be hosted on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10 am to 3:30 pm and Sunday 9/10 and 9/17 between 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm. The KKBE will be closed on 9/24 for Yom Kippur.

An artist reception hosted by The Miller Gallery will be Thursday, September 28th from 6 pm – 8 pm at KKBE. All are welcome.

The Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim is located at 90 Hasell Street.
