Congressional Candidate Michael B. Moore Releases Statement on State Supreme Court Upholding Abortion Ban

Michael B. Moore, a Democrat running for the U.S. House of Representatives in South Carolina’s 1st congressional district, released the following statement today on the South Carolina Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a six-week abortion ban:

“The ruling today by the Supreme Court of South Carolina is the predictable result of several years of increasingly extreme Republican politics best personified by my opponent, Nancy Mace.

We already knew that women’s health was among the most important issues in this race, but today’s ruling firmly places reproductive freedom at the forefront of our fight for South Carolina’s 1st congressional district.

Here are the facts: In 2019, Nancy Mace voted for a six-week abortion ban in the South Carolina legislature. In 2021, she voted against the expansion of the child tax credit in the American Rescue Plan.

In January, she co-sponsored H.R. 7, which would make health coverage that includes reproductive care ineligible for federal funding. And just last month, she voted for an NDAA amendment that makes it harder for our servicewomen to access health care — a policy she herself called an ‘asshole move.’

Unlike Nancy Mace, I believe that a woman’s health care decisions belong between her and her doctor — not extreme Republican politicians or a state Supreme Court comprised exclusively of men.

As the Lowcountry’s next representative in Congress, I’ll fight to get government out of your lives and restore rights to South Carolinians — not strip them away.”
