Press Release

Many people in our community may be surprised to find out that the month of September is a very important time of the year. Not only because football is back in season, but more importantly, it is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month! You may be familiar with everything turning pink during the month of October, but did you know that September is when we “Go Gold” to show support for children diagnosed with cancer?

Just this year, over 250 children will be diagnosed with cancer in South Carolina alone. The average age of a child diagnosed with cancer is only 6 years old, and even though most will survive, all will experience the unpredictability, instability and long-term effects brought on by a cancer diagnosis. Camp Happy Days understands what these children and their families go through because we have been at their side providing emotional and psychological support for the last 40 years. The children and their families are a part of a much bigger family of staff, volunteers and the community who come together for one another and fight against pediatric cancer and its consequences.

We have many ways we will be advocating and raising awareness about pediatric cancer month, but we are excited to be kicking off the month with our upcoming 3rd annual Hope Rocks benefit concert. The funds from this event will go directly towards providing crucial programs that support families’ needs outside of the hospital.

Annual Hope Rocks benefit concert supporting Camp Happy Days

  • When: Thursday, September 7th at 6:30 pm, Doors Open at 6 pm
  • Where: The Refinery on Meeting Street
  • Music, food, dancing, and drinks from some of Charleston’s favorites like The Midnight City and Lauren Hall, Cleats, Graze, The Peanut Gang, and the Whale.
  • Presented by APECS Aerospace
  • All proceeds support Camp Happy Days’ week-long summer camp and year-round programs for kids battling cancer and their families.

We would love for our community to join us at Hope Rocks but also by turning the whole month of September “Gold” for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and raising funds that will support children diagnosed with cancer and their families, not only during the month of September, but year-round!

Tickets can be purchased at:
