Charleston Jazz Academy Perpetuates Charleston’s Jazz Legacy
Press Release
One of the great incubators of jazz, Charleston has long been known as a training ground for world-class musicians. The Charleston Jazz Academy was established in June of 2017 to perpetuate the Holy City’s rich jazz legacy by providing high-level training and performance opportunities. The Academy strives to make the art form accessible to all through scholarships and jazz passes available to students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn and experience jazz.
This fall, the Charleston Jazz Academy is encouraging musicians to get back to jazz, offering private lessons, youth and adult jazz combo classes, Kinder Jazz and homeschool band classes. With opportunities available for all ages and levels, it is notable that many students who have trained at the Academy have received scholarships to prestigious music programs at colleges such as Berklee College of Music, and others have gone on to become professional performers and music educators. In keeping with tradition, the Charleston Jazz Academy students, teachers and alumni continue to make a name for the Holy City on the global music scene. The Charleston Jazz Academy is an outreach program of the local nonprofit, Charleston Jazz.
