Flowertown Players Announce New Studio Spotlight Series

The Flowertown Players (FTP) will present their new Studio Spotlight Series, beginning in September with The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe, and culminating with Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg in April 2024.

Behind the historic James F. Dean theatre in Summerville is an unassuming cinder block building. Once a church, the structure serves as a studio for rehearsing main-stage shows and educational programming. There has not been a production in that space since 2019, but that all changes this fall when it will be transformed into an indoor soccer field that sets the stage for DeLappe’s exhilarating and raw coming of age story about the resiliency of the American teenager.

This drama surrounding the all-girl team was a finalist for the Pulitzer in 2017 and won an Obie award for best ensemble. The show is one of the most talked about new plays, and had two sold-out runs off-Broadway.

FTP says that just like an off-Broadway venue might, this new space allows them to take some artistic risks by putting on shows like The Wolves and Take Me Out, or other new plays that may appeal to a smaller audience.

l has put together a talented ensemble cast for The Wolves will be directed by Sarah Daniel and features an ensemble cast. Meanwhile, Charleston actor, writer, director, and educator Michael Smallwod will helm the all-male ensemble of Take Me Out, Greenberg’s Tony winning locker-room drama hot off of a Broadway revival. Auditions will be announced later this year.

  • September 15th to 24th, Thursday – Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 3 pm
• Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg – Directed by Michael Smallwood
  • April 11th to 21st, Thursday – Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 3 pm

Tickets are $20 general admission. $15 for Student, Senior, Military.

The FTP Studio is located at 113B E. Richardson Ave. in Summerville.
