Metanoia and the Lecque family announced the ribbon cutting for Golden Dream Townhomes, a new affordable housing complex in North Charleston’s historic Liberty Hill, will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 10 am. This initiative, created in response to the housing crisis, is a result of a partnership between Metanoia and Golden Dream, LLC.

Golden Dream Townhomes will offer eight apartments designed specifically for families with low incomes. The Lecque family have been proprietors of the land for more than 150 years.

Founded in 1871 by four freedmen, Liberty Hill boasts a rich historical legacy that has greatly influenced the development of North Charleston. The Lecques, among Liberty Hill’s founding families, are deeply rooted in community service.

Bill Stanfield, the CEO of Metanoia, expressed his enthusiasm for Golden Dream Townhomes, acknowledging the pressing housing issue faced by the community.

“With so many families of modest incomes paying more than 60% of their monthly income in rent, the rising cost of housing is keeping families from creating opportunities to build on their own strengths,” he said. “Because of Golden Dream Townhomes, eight families will have an affordable place to call home and be rooted in the community. Our team at Metanoia is excited about Golden Dream Townhomes because it addresses a challenge in our community through a community-driven solution and using community-based assets. I hope this inspires similar projects and partnerships in the area.”

Carolyn Lecque, a managing director of Golden Dream, LLC, added, “The opportunity to partner with Metanoia to develop this property for affordable and accessible housing is a Godsend and a dream come true for my family. Our history has always been one of making reasonable accommodations and provisions for deserving individuals and families. We are privileged to be a part of this momentous occasion to continue that legacy.”

The ribbon cutting will take place at 4823 Lecque Street in North Charleston.
