North Charleston Operations and Important Information for Residents
Press Release from the City of North Charleston
In preparation for Hurricane Idalia, North Charleston city officials are taking essential steps to ensure the safety and well-being of our community members. Please take note of the following important information.
Citizen Information Line: For accurate and up-to-date information, please contact the North Charleston Citizen Information Line at 843-740-5883 or 843-740-5887 (Spanish language assistance is available).
Trash Collection: North Charleston Sanitation services will operate as scheduled on Thursday.
Sandbag Operations: Sandbag operations are now complete. No further sandbags will be distributed.
Court System: Court offices will be closed from noon on August 30, 2023, and will reopen on September 1, 2023.
Shelter Information: The designated shelter for residents is located at 3841 Leeds Avenue. If you plan to relocate to the shelter, please bring the following items:
- Bedding
- Clothing
- Medications
- Your child’s stuffed animal
- Blanket
- Emergency kit
The shelter will be open from 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 31. Pets are allowed, but residents must stay with their animals and cannot drop them off. Remember to bring comfort items with you to the shelter.
Declaration of Emergency: North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey has signed a declaration of emergency, officially declaring a state of emergency for the city. This declaration includes measures to implement restrictions on burning and prevent price gouging within the city of North Charleston.
