Hed Hi Studio Announces Upcoming Show with Artist Arthur Brouthers
Hed Hi Studio will this month welcome Arthur Brouthers (above) back to Charleston for a week long art exhibition. An opening reception will be held September 22nd from 6 pm to 10 pm at the King Street production studio. This event is open to the public.
Brouthers is a Charlotte-based artist who focuses on abstract expression through fluid color, figurative form, and elements of nature. Born and raised in Charleston, he moved to Charlotte at age 29 to further his career in the music industry. He then slowly transitioned to full time artist in 2014, where he developed his style and found his creative voice.
“Reverie represents the culmination of an ongoing journey of exploration, centering on abstract movements and forms,” Brouthers said. “Much of the inspiration comes from a recurring dream I started having a few years ago where giant brushstrokes appeared to hover or float off the surface of the wall.”
All works are created using acrylic paint, spray paint, and ink with oversized brushes and homemade tools. In the collection, you’ll find pieces ranging from large, three-dimensional, multi-colored single brushstrokes to other works that combine similar techniques but vary in detail. These works lack specific direction, embodying a stream of consciousness. They represent spontaneous emotion and movement, encapsulating a sense of unrest. During the exhibition guests will see over 25 pieces of original artwork priced from $200-$6000. A full digital catalog will be available upon request. Collectors can purchase directly through Tim at Hed Hi Studio.
Brouthers’ work has been exhibited nationwide in galleries from coast to coast, from New York City to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Dallas, Asheville, and Charlotte. He has exhibited internationally in Sweden, Scotland and at the lauded Art Basel Switzerland. From 2016 to the present, he has been featured annually at Art Basel Miami and Armory Week in New York. His artworks have been featured in several major Hollywood films: “The Jade Earring” with Hugh Jackman, “I Still Believe,” and “Get Out.”
