Taco Boy Honors Mexican Independence Day by Raising Money for the Charleston Hispanic Association
Press Release
Taco Boy Downtown Charleston is honoring Mexican Independence Day, September 16th, with all the margaritas and craft cocktails, tequila flights, tacos, queso, and guac you can handle. The 217 Huger Street taqueria will be donating 10% of the day’s sales to Charleston Hispanic Association, the largest volunteer-based Hispanic charity in South Carolina.
The nonprofit attends to the basic needs of the Latino and Hispanic community by connecting them with compatible local businesses and services, including legal help.
“Support and donations are vital in allowing us to help so many people in our area,” says CHA Chief Financial Officer Enrique Grace. “The support that Taco Boy is giving us will literally help hundreds of people in our neighborhoods.”
Taco Boy Downtown Charleston is open on Saturday from 10 am until 11 pm, serving brunch (‘til 2 pm), lunch, and dinner.
What is Mexican Independence Day and Why the Give Back?
September 16th marks Mexico’s declaration of independence from Spain in 1810, which had oppressively occupied Mexico for over 300 years. It marked the start of a decade-long Mexican War of Independence that culminated with Spanish withdraw on August 24th, 1821. Mexican Independence Day is celebrated widely in Mexico with colorful parades, mariachi concerts, and plenty of food.
“Charitable giving is a cornerstone of our mission of creating positive experiences,” says Taco Boy cofounder, Karalee Nielsen Fallert. “In honor of our love for the spices, heat, and flavors of Mexico and Central America, we see this as an opportunity to support the community that has inspired us.”
