Charleston Battery’s Augi Williams called up by Sierra Leone for AFCON qualifier
By: Battery Media
Charleston Battery forward Augi Williams has been selected by the Sierra Leone national team for the country’s upcoming qualification match for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Williams (seven caps) rejoins the Leone Stars after playing a full 90 minutes in their previous qualifier in June against Nigeria.
Sierra Leone will face Guinea-Bissau in the final qualification round, taking place on Mon., Sept. 11, at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau at 12 p.m. ET.
The call-up comes on the heels of a strong 2023 campaign for Williams so far. The striker leads the Battery in goals with 12 across all competitions, eight of which have been match-winners.
Williams is set to return from international duty following the AFCON qualifier and ahead of the Battery’s away fixture against Loudoun United FC on Sat., Sept. 16.
