Press Release

The Lonon Foundation, a Charleston nonprofit that provides resources to children throughout the state who are impacted by their parent or caregiver’s cancer diagnosis, is excited to announce Shuck Fest, an oyster roast featuring the local oysters, ice-cold brews, and good vibes.

Shuck Fest will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 12 pm to 4 pm at the newly rebranded Tradesman Brewing Company downtown. Indulge in steamed local oysters, provided by Sandlapper Events, and great beer and wine on tap from Tradesman.

The event will also include a food truck (vegan options available) and a live band. While you’re there, shop from onsite local vendors offering clothing, artwork, and wellness products, and get ready to bid on online auction items from Blakely Made, Two Brunettes, Le Cruiset, Stono Ferry Golf Course, The Skin Clique, and more.

Grab your friends and an appetite and get ready to shuck it up! Also included with each ticket is one free adult Shuck Fest t-shirt. All Shuck Fest proceeds will go towards raising funds and awareness for the families The Lonon Foundation serves.

Since its inception in 2017, The Lonon Foundation has raised more than $150,000 for their programming. Their programs are designed and implemented by a Certified Child Life Specialist. “It is absolutely vital to provide developmentally appropriate support, education, and comfort to these children, which we do through creating and enhancing coping skills with our families,” said Katie Myers, MS, CCLS. “It is imperative to protect children’s and teen’s emotional, social, and cognitive development with the proper resources and support.”

The Lonon Foundation’s programming includes free in-person and virtual events for children ages 5-17. Upon enrollment, The Lonon Foundation provides welcome boxes that include mindfulness and coping activities and one-on-one support from an on-staff Child Life Specialist, who specializes in the developmental impact of illness and injury on children. Enrolled families can also receive mini grants of up to $1,000 per year to help mitigate the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis.

“We’re honored to be able to provide a variety of supportive services to these families,” said Anna Lonon, Founder. “Going through a cancer diagnosis while trying to raise a family can be extremely stressful on every family member. We hope to provide resources that can help children process their experience in a healthy way while also empowering families.

The Lonon Foundation invites supporters and community members to join Shuck Fest and support families facing cancer in our community and throughout South Carolina. If you can’t make it to the in-person event, the online auction will go live one week prior to the event.
