After-School Food Programs Return to Charleston County Libraries
The Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) and the Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) are working together to alleviate child hunger in Charleston by offering free after-school food at select Charleston County libraries.
Beginning on Monday, September 11th, the free, nutritious meals or snacks will be available to kids and teens ages 5 – 18, Monday through Friday, from 3 pm to 5 pm (unless otherwise noted) at the following library locations:
Serving Hot Suppers
- St. Paul’s Hollywood Library (5130 Hwy 165, Hollywood)
Serving Cold Suppers
- Main Library (68 Calhoun St.)
- Keith Summey North Charleston (3503 Rivers Ave)
Serving Snacks
- Dorchester Road – (6325 Dorchester Rd)
- Hurd/St. Andrews (1735 N. Woodmere Dr)
- Otranto Road (2261 Otranto Rd)
- Served from 2:30 – 4:30 pm
- John’s Island (3531 Maybank Hwy)
- Served from 2:30 – 4:30 pm
- Served from 2:30 – 4:30 pm
Other After-school Food Programs (not affiliated with the Lowcountry Food Bank)
- Baxter-Patrick James Island (1858 South Grimball Rd) – Serving Snacks: Monday to Friday, 3 pm to 5 pm
Snacks and suppers for most branches are being provided through the LCFB’s Kids Café program, and feature nutritious options such as fruit, cheese, yogurt and muffins. This is an equal opportunity program.
