About Operation Neighborhood: Operation Neighborhood is an inter-departmental program that actively engages city staff and residents in quarterly neighborhood clean-up events throughout the city.
Each quarter, staff from various city departments, including Neighborhood Services, Keep Charleston Beautiful, Livability, Public Service, Charleston Fire Department and the Mayor’s Office, select a neighborhood based on litter, bulk trash, beautification, drainage, lighting and other needs.
On the designated clean-up day, city staff, residents and other volunteers work together to collect litter, remove bulk trash, clear vegetation in drainage ditches, plant trees and complete other beautification tasks based on the neighborhood’s specific needs.
What they’re saying: City of Charleston Business and Neighborhood Services Director Meg Thompson said, “This event provides an opportunity for community members and city staff to work collaboratively to create a cleaner and safer environment for all. Each quarter, participants have an opportunity to engage with their neighbors, foster community pride and make a lasting, positive impact on their surroundings.”
