The Charleston Museum to Host Three-Part Archaeology Lecture Series

The Charleston Museum is pleased to announce a three-part archaeology lecture series celebrating the distinguished career of long-time Curator of Historical Archaeology, Martha Zierden (above), who is retiring after 42 years of exceptional service to the fields of historical archaeology and museum curation.

The lectures feature noted scholars in the field covering a wide range of topics, including archaeological discoveries in the Charleston region, the significance of preserving cultural heritage, and the evolving role of archaeology in modern society. Each presentation promises to be an enlightening and engaging exploration:

• Dr. Jon Marcoux Lecture on Indigenous and African Pottery-making during Charleston’s Colonial Period on Thursday, September 28th, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

• Dr. Elizabeth J. Reitz Lecture on the Emergence and Evolution of Carolina’s Colonial Cattle Economy on Thursday, October 19th, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
• Martha Zierden Lecture on “Past, Present, and Future” of Archaeology on Thursday, November 9th, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

All lectures will take place at The Charleston Museum, located at 360 Meeting Street, and are open to the public. Seating is limited, so early registration is highly encouraged.
