Community Protest against Moms For Liberty
Defense of Democracy, a national nonpartisan organization mobilizing communities throughout the country to protect schools, has announced a community protest against Moms For Liberty (M4L), a conservative political organization that advocates against school curricula that mention LGBT rights, race and ethnicity, and discrimination.
The protest will take place at the Moms For Liberty Chapter Meeting on Tuesday, September 19th, from 5:45 – 6:45 pm, at at the Staybridge Suites in Mt Pleasant (251 Sessions Way).
Here’s what Defense of Democracy had to say:
“Protest against takeover over of public schools and local government Join us on September 19 at 5:45 in Mt Pleasant for a community protest against Moms For Liberty. We’ve already witnessed the extreme dysfunction of the CCSD Board of Trustees regarding the Superintendent, and due to the M4L majority . Next on their agenda is to display so-called “pornographic” books that are apparently in the CCSD libraries. M4L will be organizing and planning their assault on books at this meeting. There’s been some discussion within their online groups about doxxing librarians, even calls for them to be arrested as “groomers”.
Moms For Liberty has invited municipal candidates for local office to speak. This supposed non-partisan, grassroots organization is planning a takeover of local government to match their alliances in the state government.
Defense of Democracy, a national nonpartisan organization mobilizing communities throughout the country to protect our schools, will be coordinating with multiple local advocacy groups to have a presence outside of the meeting. Defense of Democracy advocates for pro-democracy candidates, mentors school board candidates, and provides tools and education that marginalized communities can use to safeguard their rights and the rights of all of their children.
“They’re so loud and so aggressive that people are scared into silence,” Defense of Democracy founder Karen Svoboda said of Moms for Liberty. “If you see bigotry and homophobia, there is a civic responsibility to speak out against it.””
