Rep. Mace Introduces Active Shooter Alert System Improvement Act of 2023
Rep. Nancy Mace last week introduced the Active Shooter Alert System Improvement Act of 2023. While emergency alert systems have been established to serve as a vital tool, Rep. Mace’s office claims local and state law enforcement have faced challenges in utilizing its full potential.
“We must equip our law enforcement with state of the art technology and the best tools available, so they may best protect the American people,” Rep. Mace said. “This act is an important step towards accomplishing that and ensuring America continues to best utilize new technologies.”
The bill would establish an Active Shooter Alert Coordinator within state and local law enforcement offices; seek to eliminate gaps in the integrated public alert and warning system; develop additional elements, such as local active shooter plans, when utilizing such systems; and improve geolocation technologies and capabilities for the public alert and warning system.
