LTP Challenger to be ‘the best place to watch’ men’s tennis in S.C.
Press Release
Some of the best men’s tennis players in the world will compete at LTP Mount Pleasant in the second annual LTP Challenger tournament from Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
“By far, this tournament is the best place to watch the highest quality men’s tennis in South Carolina,” said Patrick Hieber, tournament director and director of tennis for LTP. “If you want to see exceptional professional men’s tennis in South Carolina, this is where to be.”
This year marks the second time that LTP has hosted an ATP Challenger Tour event. Admission to the 32-player tournament is free. Qualifying begins Sunday, and the tournament begins Monday. Weekday matches begin at 10 a.m.; weekend matches begin at 11 a.m.
One of the big names coming to LTP Mount Pleasant is top seed Denis Kudla, who is ranked No. 179 and has ranked as high as No. 53. The American has notched notable wins, including over players now ranked in the Top 20 such as Taylor Fritz and Cameron Norrie.
Canadian Vasek Pospisil, ranked No. 188, is another highly respected player in this year’s tournament. Pospisil achieved a career-high ranking of No. 25 and has beaten the world’s former No. 1 Andy Murray.
Some rising stars in tennis also will be playing. American Brandon Holt, ranked No. 243, is the son of former No. 1 Tracy Austin. He had a breakthrough year in 2022, beating the world’s best player at the U.S. Open in the first round.
Another player to watch is Oliver Crawford, ranked No. 277, who hails from Spartanburg. He played at the University of Florida before turning professional, and he’s competed around the globe this year.
“This is the pathway to the top,” Hieber said. “Every top player has competed in these level tournaments on their way up.”
Fans also will be able to watch two local LTP Academy players, Carter Pate and Jake Smith, both of whom earned doubles Wild Card draws.
In addition to this men’s tournament, LTP has hosted numerous women’s events, such as a Women’s Tennis Association 125, an International Tennis Federation and the International Tennis Association College Tennis Women’s All-American Championships.
