Press Release

Season 92 for the Footlight Players is in full swing and October is filled with a variety of all three of the theatre’s signature series programs starting with the second production of the theatre’s MainStage lineup, the sexy and seedy prohibition musical Andrew Lippa’s Wild Party.

Andrew Lippa’s Wild Party Oct. 6 – 22

Directed by FLP Artistic Director Kyle Barnette and choreographed by Sarah Callahan Black, the sexually-charged prohibition musical opened Off-Broadway in 2000 with the original cast featuring Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs. Based on the 1926 poem by Joseph March, Lippa’s The Wild Party tells the story of two explosive lovers, Queenie and Burrs, whose intoxicating attraction confuses even them. It’s Manhattan in the 1920’s and Burrs and Queenie want to throw a party-to-end-all-parties. When a vivacious group of guests arrive, attractions intensify and things get a little too steamy. Drinks flow throughout the evening and mounting jealousy turns violent, and all parties must come to an end. But who will be there to clean their mess when the party’s over? Wild Party opens Oct. 6th at the Queen Street Playhouse.

Sunday Night Speakeasy: Tonya Nicole Oct. 22

The second show in season two of the theatre’s Sunday Night Speakeasy series will welcome Charleston’s Tonya Nicole, bringing her sultry jazz and r&b stylings to  the QSP lobby. Tonya, along with her two-piece band, will bring her themed show Love, Life, and Loss to Queen Street’s Speakeasy Oct 22nd for a single engagement at 7:30 pm. This show celebrates love, life and the heartbreak of loss, with songs from jazz and Neo-soul artists such as Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Esperanza Spalding, Jill Scott, and many more.

The Rocky Horror Experience Oct. 27 & 28

Following this summer’s revival of Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche, Footlight returns with the second program  in their Act Two Series with the beloved, interactive The Rocky Horror Experience. This new Halloween tradition features, not just the cult-classic playing on the theatre’s big screen, but also a live band and actors  performing many of the iconic numbers from the movie live on stage. Complete with audience callbacks, prop  bags and a costume contest, The Rocky Horror Experience is a Halloween tradition not to be missed!
