Hed Hi Studio Presents “Lazy Boy” by Local Artist Jeremy Croft
Hed Hi Studio will celebrate one of Charleston’s top emerging artists, Jeremy Croft (above), by presenting his solo exhibition, Lazy Boy. An opening reception will be held October 14th from 6 pm to 10 pm at the King Street production studio. This event is open to the public.
Croft is a self-taught artist born and raised in Williston, South Carolina. For many years his artistic abilities were applied to and honed in trade oriented jobs including carpentry and metal fabrication. Later, he would spend several years executing detailed data analysis, which required extreme levels of deep concentration for several hours at a time. Combing these skill sets, Croft is able to produce distinctly crafted and detailed paintings. He now lives in Charleston with is family.
“The images I create being primarily figurative and representational,” Croft said. “I avoid escapism in my work. I think isolating an assumed meaningless real life moment and turning that into a painting can incarnate a significance that is not always accessible to us. This is my way of addressing how prolific our existence actually is, and the fact that we just overlook it most of the time. When I’m painting, I always try to hold an idea or prompt in mind as an attempt to put as much subliminal energy into my work as possible. Intending for that energy to pass on to the viewer.”
For Lazy Boy, Croft depicts an array of life-sized, hyperrealistic chairs painted in oil and acrylic. Many of the seats were conceptualized by renown mid-century modern designers – all evoking nostalgia.
