Press Release

National Friends of Libraries (NFOL) Week is October 15 – 21, 2023, and a perfect opportunity to remind everybody why the Charleston FRIENDS of the Library (CFOL) exists: To support programming for the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL).

Programming like the Kids Cafe after school snack program at Baxter-Patrick James Island Library. This amazing program provides children with over 8500 snacks annually during the school year. Snacks include nutritious options such as fruit, cheese, yogurt, and muffins. Snacks are available to kids 18 and under, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

“I’m usually hungry after school,” one student participant explains. “And we don’t typically have a lot of food at home.” The after school snack program provides them with a lifeline by way of fun and healthy food.

When you support the FRIENDS, you can make a difference for the most vulnerable members of the community. Because of a gift from an incredibly generous donor, everything raised during NFOL Week will be matched up to $2500. The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar & Ice Cream Shop in Mount Pleasant is hosting a special Spirit Night on Monday, October 16, from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. 10% of all sales will be donated to the FRIENDS in support of NFOL week and will also be matched. Who knew supporting CFOL could be this delicious?
