Press Release

The culinary program at Fort Dorchester High School in Dorchester School District Two has been chosen to participate in King Arthur Baking Company’s outreach program.

The national program includes students in grades 4 through 12. The goal of the program is for students to learn, bake, and share.

  • Learn: FDHS culinary students will learn the math and science behind making bread from scratch.
  • Bake: In December, the culinary program will receive supplies provided by King Arthur Baking Company to bake fresh bread.
  • Share: Each recipe will make two loaves of bread, one to keep and one to share with someone in need or as an act of kindness. FDHS is teaming up with Katie’s Krops to donate the homemade bread and delicious soup as well. Katie’s Krops teaches children from across the country to garden and work to end hunger in their community.

“Both King Arthur Baking Company’s Bake for Good and Katie’s Krops closely align with my kitchen philosophy of changing the world with a spoon,” said Chef Darrel Shepherd, head of the FDHS culinary program. “When our students are able to give back to our community they learn that all of us can do something to make things better, and as chefs and culinary students our tool for change is food.”
