Mary Martin Gallery Presents “Memories” by Trish Weeks
Press Release
The public is invited to Mary Martin Gallery on November 3rd for the opening reception of “MEMORIES” by Trish Weeks which will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm at 103 Broad Street.
Similar to famous artist Claude Monet, but with her own contemporary twist, artist Trish Weeks emulates the master with her own version of his beloved water lilies titled “Thinking of Monet #4”, that is the signature piece in her upcoming show “MEMORIES” at Mary Martin Gallery in Charleston.
Sitting among the water lilies in Monet’s garden in France, Weeks gets to work on her next great painting. As opposed to merely replicating her subject, Weeks chooses to capture the feelings she experiences when looking at what is infront of her. Broad and abstract landscapes layered with thick paint and pure colors on an aluminum surface textured by palette knife is what Trish Weeks is known for. Her paint is applied in general sweeping and darting strokes, creating dramatic movement and amplified composition within her paintings. When asked why she chooses to paint on aluminum with a palette knife, Weeks says, “I love being able to leave bits of the aluminum showing, which seems to show light from behind. Every surface I paint reacts differently. Aluminum also has a more archival base, so it does not expand or contract due to climate interference. And I paint primarily with oil and a palette knife to create layers with vivid color and texture.”
For many years, Trish Weeks dabbled in art as a side hobby, but did not pursue her passions full-time until the untimely and saddening death of a close friend forced her to look at life in a new perspective. “None of us know how long we will live, so why am I not doing what I most love doing in life? If not now, when will I find time to paint”? says Weeks.
Today, expressionist artist Trish Weeks continues creating paintings that jump with color and sweeps of paint from her knife. Her spectacular work is in collections all around the world.
Weeks will be in attendance to greet the public at the opening reception of “MEMORIES” at Mary Martin Gallery, 103 Broad Street, on November 3rd from 5 pm – 8 pm.
