Extended CARTA Route Assists Charleston County Residents During Early Voting Period
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) today announced that its headquarters is now directly along a Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) bus route during this fall’s early voting period.
On October 23rd, CARTA began directly serving BVRE headquarters, located at 4340 Corporate Road in North Charleston, by extending its existing Leeds Avenue (103) Route. The bus will stop at BVRE headquarters on weekdays approximately 34 minutes after each hour between 6 am and 5 pm.
“Voting is the most powerful way to make your voice heard in a democracy,” said BVRE Executive Director Isaac Cramer. “However, some people face barriers such as distance, disability, or lack of transportation that prevents them from accessing our services. This expanded CARTA route to our headquarters is essential for ensuring that every eligible Charleston County resident can receive voter services at our office and can participate in the civic process. I thank CARTA for providing this necessary resource for an inclusive democracy.”
Residents interested in taking transportation provided by CARTA to or from BVRE headquarters can plan their trip on rideCARTA.com. All CARTA vehicles and BVRE headquarters are wheelchair accessible.
“Public transit is a public service and CARTA is pleased to partner with BVRE to provide this important connection to voter services,” said CARTA Board Chairman Mike Seekings.
The early voting period this fall is from Oct. 23rd through Oct. 27th and from Oct. 30th through Nov. 3rd, with polls open from 8:30 am until 5 pm each day. The final day of operation for this expanded CARTA route will be Nov. 3rd to coincide with the last day of early voting.
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is responsible for conducting all municipal, state, and federal elections that are held in Charleston County. BVRE also conducts outreach events with community members that encourage election education and participation.
