Steeplechase of Charleston Returns on November 12th
Steeplechase of Charleston, an event featuring five high-stake horse races, will run at the Stono Ferry Racetrack on Sunday, November 12th, 2023. Since the event features a purse of $100,000, fans can expect to see jockeys from around the world attending. This year, Steeplechase has transitioned to a non-profit event, supporting the preservation of community journalism.
“Watching thoroughbred racehorses and their jockeys flash by in a blaze of color, heart stopping speed and the thunder of hoovers is the best way to spend a fall day in the Lowcountry,” said Race Director Toby Edwards.
While the horse races are not taking place, guests can explore a Merchant Market filled with the local artisans selling their unique products. Returning as a fan favorite, the second annual Corgi Race, where several corgis will have the opportunity to compete for the corgi cup title, will be taking place throughout the day. There will also be family-friendly activities taking place in the Family Fun Zone, as tickets for children 12 and under are free. Tailgate and VIP spots are open for purchase now.
“Steeplechase of Charleston presents a great opportunity for The Post and Courier to share the storied history of steeplechase races while offering the community a thrilling experience,” said Chris Zoeller, Executive Director. “I love how the community comes together and discovers the phenomenal power of the thoroughbred horse.”
Gates open for Steeplechase of Charleston at 8 am, with the opening ceremonies beginning at 12:30 pm, followed shortly by the races starting at 1 pm. Tickets for this event can be found here, with General Admission, Tailgating spots, and Hospitality tents available for purchase. For guests looking for an elevated experience, Hendrick Lexus Charleston will be returning as the presenting sponsor and will welcome guests into the Lexus VIP Lounge.
