Braised & Glazed and House of Brews Hosting Romanian Dinner and Beer Pairing
Braised & Glazed, a local food truck, and House of Brews, a local bar, beer garden, and craft beer collective, are offering a unique and authentic Romanian dinner and beer pairing for the 2023 Charleston Beer Week on Wednesday, November 1st.
Braised & Glazed is showcasing owner Chef Adrian Ion’s Romanian nationality with authentic dishes him and his family used to make back in Romania, where he grew up.
“I’ve been wanting to make and offer Romanian food off the truck for a while and this is the perfect opportunity to share some of my favorite dishes,” Ion said. “You can’t find Romanian food here and I’m excited to introduce it to people who are interested in tasting new flavors or like trying new cuisines”.
Ion was born and raised in Romania until he and his family fled to the United States and were granted asylum due to the Communist rule during the Romanian Revolution. Inspired by the culinary teachings of his mother, who was a professional chef in Romania, and the local ingredients from his grandfather’s farm, Ion learned the art of cooking by watching his favorite chefs on TV like Julia Child and Jacques Pépin. Graduating from Kendall College Chicago with a Professional Chef degree, Ion has shared his culinary stylings throughout Chicago until moving to Charleston with his wife, Taylor, in 2018 where they opened Braised & Glazed in 2021.
“I loved watching my mother cook and my grandfather eat,” Ion said. “They always had such an appetite and passion for the food they prepared. I’m hoping to infuse a little of them into the dishes for the beer dinner. Romanian food is not as refined and world renowned as French cuisine, it’s a rustic marriage of surrounding European countries, but there’s still a lot of thought and care put into simple peasant dishes because, for the most part, it was created to keep people alive and full. It’s very influenced by the season and what’s available, it’s hearty and meant to be shared—and always with a slice of bread”.
House of Brews owner, Rob Davis shares, “We love having the opportunity to provide a unique experience every year with a beer brunch or dinner during Charleston Beer Week. The chefs that we have had the opportunity to work with over the years have been amazing, and this year is no exception! Having Taylor and Adrian with Braised and Glazed put together such a one-of-a-kind menu is just another feather in the House of Brews cap. Beer and foodie nerds alike are in for a treat.”
The five-course dinner is being paired with hand selected craft beers from House of Brews (HOB) with new tastings that have not been offered before.
A part of Charleston Beer Week, the HOB x Braised & Glazed Beer Week Dinner is happening on Wednesday, November 1st from 6 pm to 9 pm in person at House of Brews located at 2376 Ashley River Road. Tickets are $80 a person and include all food and beverages. Must be 21 to attend.
