Science Lovers Are Invited to Celebrate National STEM Day at WonderWorks Myrtle Beach
Press Release
Albert Einstein once said, “Play is the highest form of research.” With that in mind, WonderWorks Myrtle Beach is the ideal day trip for families who value hands-on learning. To celebrate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), WonderWorks invites science lovers and explorers to stop in and celebrate National STEM Day with them on November 8, 2023. Guests will be treated to special STEM-themed demonstrations all day and get a chance to explore the updated STEM exhibit covering careers in marine biology.
“We are thrilled to highlight National STEM Day here at WonderWorks. This event is a big hit each year, so you won’t want to miss out. We’ve been working hard to prepare this year’s demonstrations and the new exhibit,” says Robert Stinnett, general manager at WonderWorks Myrtle Beach.
The WonderWorks team has several exciting offerings planned to celebrate National STEM Day. Science experiment demonstrations will be held throughout the day, all included with general admission tickets. They will provide up close and personal experiences with topics such as chemistry, insulation, origami, pressure, etc. These special experiences are sure to inspire guests of all ages to seek out knowledge and get creative in their everyday life. The Blubber Glove experiment is a WonderWorks favorite, demonstrating how marine mammals stay warm in cold water temperatures. Guests can channel their inner marine biologist to examine and experience insulation in action at this interactive lab.
Teaming up with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and SeaWorld, WonderWorks is also unveiling their upgraded “I Think, Therefore I STEM” exhibit, which will put marine biology careers in the spotlight. Guests will get a chance to learn about the day-to-day tasks of a marine biologist, areas of specialty within the field, how to start a career in marine biology and more. There will be plenty of interactive aspects to this display to engage curious minds of all ages.
According to NOAA, marine biologists coordinate the protection of various species and their habitats, perform outreach education, and even help rescue wildlife. This fascinating field is vital to the health of our oceans and marine animals. It may be of interest to those with a passion for nature, conservation, protection, and education.
“Empowering young minds to pursue STEM careers such as marine biology is essential for our world’s future. By fostering a love for marine science in the younger generations, we are cultivating the stewards our oceans and marine life need. Every budding marine biologist represents a potential solution to the challenges our seas face, from climate change to conservation. Their curiosity, dedication, and passion hold the key to safeguarding the deep and the incredible creatures that call it home,” explains Dr. Joseph Gaspard, vice president of Zoological Operations at SeaWorld Orlando.
WonderWorks is proud to offer a variety of STEM/STEAM programs throughout the year. Some activities include an annual youth art contest, teacher events, student achievement awards, science fair and event partnerships, educational field trips, and more.
WonderWorks Myrtle Beach offers over 100 interactive exhibits on STEM/STEAM themes. They provide an excellent way for guests of all ages to spend the day exploring, learning, and creating memories. Each exhibit is designed to expose guests to more science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) concepts. Additionally, there is a 6D XD Motion Theater, indoor ropes course, and laser tag arena.
