Election Day for the fall 2023 municipal elections and for the South Carolina Senate District 42 Special Election will be held on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023. With the date nearing, the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) wants to provide important information and reminders to eligible voters.

Residents who choose to vote in person on Election Day will vote at their assigned precinct. To find their  polling place, as well as view their sample ballot ahead of time, voters can visit SCVotes.gov. Those who still wish to vote early can do so at any early voting center, including BVRE headquarters in North Charleston, the  Main Library in downtown Charleston, the Seacoast Church campus in Mount Pleasant and the Seacoast  Church campus in West Ashley. Early voting hours are from 8:30 am until 5 pm. The final day of the early  voting period was Friday, November 3rd, 2023.

Those who are voting absentee must ensure their ballots are received by our office by 7 pm on Tuesday, Nov.  7, 2023. Voters who have not yet mailed their absentee ballot are encouraged to return it in person to our  office to confirm their ballot will be received in time. BVRE headquarters is located at 4340 Corporate Road in North Charleston. To reach our headquarters from Leeds Avenue, turn onto Bridgeview Drive. After passing  the Charleston County Public Services Building, make a left onto Corporate Road just before the W. O.  Thomas, Jr. Boat Landing. Directional signage to BVRE headquarters will be visible from Corporate Road.

“It is our duty to vote and have a say in the issues that affect us. Sometimes, we face barriers such as  transportation issues or conflicting schedules,” stated BVRE Executive Director Isaac Cramer. “Making a plan to reach your Charleston County polling location is crucial to the democratic process. It helps residents  overcome these challenges and ensure their vote counts.”

Election results will be posted to SCVotes.gov and CHSVotes.gov on Election Night.

If runoff elections are necessary, early voting will be held at BVRE headquarters from Wednesday, Nov. 15,  2023 through Friday, Nov. 17, 2023. Early voting hours will be 8:30 am until 5 pm each day. Eligible voters who previously requested to vote absentee in any runoffs will be mailed their ballots. These ballots must be  returned to BVRE headquarters by 7 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023. Election Day for runoff elections will be Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023. Voters will vote at their precincts from 7 am until 7 pm. Voters should note that only polling locations serving municipalities with runoff elections will be open on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023.

The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is responsible for conducting all municipal, state, and federal elections that are held in Charleston County. BVRE also conducts outreach events with community members that encourage election education and participation.
