Press Release

Tonight, Charleston Mayoral candidate, Clay Middleton, concedes in the 2023 City of Charleston Mayoral race. Voters cast their ballots today, resulting in a runoff between Cogswell and Tecklenburg.

A Charleston native from Bayside Manor, Burke and Citadel graduate, Lieutenant Colonel in the SC Army National Guard serving as a Battalion Commander, combat veteran, and public affairs professional, Clay Middleton has been on the campaign trail for 18 months listening and persuading voters to select him to lead our city forward as Mayor.

Clay Middleton said, “I am humbled and honored to have the support, time, and dedication from my volunteers, loved ones, supporters, staff, friends, family, donors, and community members. This is the beginning of a new chapter in my relationship with the city of Charleston and one that will continue to prosper.

The change we seek – for our families, our communities, and our future generations – is possible. While that change may not come with me as Mayor, I am a member of this beloved community and this is still home. One can make the change they seek without holding a formal political office and that is what I will continue to do. I remain focused and committed to leaving no neighborhood, community, or resident behind. Keep the faith, Charleston. The best is yet to come.” said Middleton.
