Mayors John Tecklenburg and Will Haynie today released the following statement announcing that the 2020 Cooper River Bridge Run has been canceled:

“Given the current circumstances related to COVID-19, we feel that it is time to cancel this year’s Cooper River Bridge Run. These are truly unprecedented times and, as the situation is constantly evolving, we believe that this decision is in the best interest of all our citizens and visitors. We are grateful to Cooper River Bridge Run leadership and staff for their partnership and guidance as we reached this tough decision and we look forward to working with them to make next year’s race the best one yet.”

The Bridge Run was originally scheduled for April 4th, 2020, but was rescheduled to August 1st, 2020 over public health concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cooper River Bridge Run’s Facebook page shared the following message:

“The 43rd Cooper River Bridge Run, originally scheduled for April 4 and then moved to August 1, has been cancelled for 2020. We sincerely hoped that conditions around COVID-19 would improve enough to continue our tradition in 2020. Based on the decision of our city leadership, local health experts, and community leaders, it has been determined the race must be canceled for this year. We are committed to providing a world-class 10K foot race and we are looking forward to celebrating its return on March 27, 2021. Until then, we will continue our mission of promoting health and wellness and cannot wait for the 2021 event

Race Director Irv Batten said:

“While we share in the disappointment of having to cancel, we appreciate everyone’s understanding
and support during this unprecedented time,” said . “Our event would not be
possible without our wonderful participants, volunteers and sponsors, and their safety will always be
our top priority.”

The Cooper River Bridge Run is expected to return on Saturday, March 27th, 2021. Registered participants, you can view your full list of options and considerations at https://bridgerun.com.
