Charleston County Waterparks to Open Monday, June 15th at a Limited Capacity

Published

on

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) will open its three waterparks – Splash Island in Mount Pleasant, Splash Zone on James Island, and Whirlin’ Waters in North Charleston.

On June 15th, all three waterparks will open at reduced capacity, and other measures to encourage social distancing will be in effect. Capacity numbers will be reassessed throughout the season. CCPRC staff members and lifeguards will take many precautions to ensure the safety of patrons at the waterparks. Staff will regularly sanitize floats, mats, lounge chairs, lifejackets, locker keys and high-touch areas. Some lockers, picnic tables, food service areas and registers may be closed to encourage spacing. Restrooms will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Park-goers will also find changes to some operations including re-entry procedures and group bookings. These steps are being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure staff and visitor safety.

Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark is located at North Charleston Wannamaker County Park and is the largest of the three waterparks owned by CCPRC. Whirlin’ Waters features unique activities for all ages with attractions including the 60-foot-tall multi-person slide The Washout, the Big Splash Tree House, Rollin’ River lazy river, Big Kahuna wave pool, Tubular Twister slides, the Rip Tide Run mat racer slide and the Otter Bay kiddie area.

Splash Zone waterpark, located in James Island County Park, offers two 200-foot-long slides, a large leisure pool, a 500-foot-long lazy river, and a family play complex called The Rainforest.

Splash Island waterpark at Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park provides hours of fun for toddlers to pre-teenage children. Attractions include a 200-foot-long body flume, activity pool, a 16-foot-long otter slide, The Cyclone swirling water ride, and sprays, geysers, waterfalls and more.

CCPRC’s West County Aquatic Center in Hollywood will also reopen on June 15 for regular pool hours, and at a reduced capacity.

Park admission fees vary. Waterparks are open from 10 am to 6 pm beginning June 15th. Splash Passes will not be sold this season and refunds will be provided to those who purchased them previously. Birthday parties, group rates, promotional days and other select offerings will not be available in June.
