Association for the Blind Receives $5,500 Grant from Volvo
The Volvo Car US Operations Community Fund of Coastal Community Foundation (CCF) recently awarded a $5,500 grant to the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired South Carolina (ABVI) for its Own Your Life program. The grant will help support the vision rehabilitation services we offer through our Own Your Life program at our new Ladson facility, which opened in March 2020.
Through the Own Your Life program, ABVI provides personal independence and vocational rehabilitation training for adults who are blind or visually impaired in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties. Classes and opportunities include: Activities of Daily Living Training, Assistive Technology Tutoring, Braille, Client Connections (social events), Computer Training, Guide Dog Scholarships, Orientation and Mobility Training and Therapy (group and family) and Soft Skills.
“Without funding from partners like the Volvo Car US Operations Community Fund of CCF, adults who are blind or visually impaired would not have access to the critical vision rehabilitation services they need,” said Anne Reid, ABVI’s Chief Development Officer. “We are so grateful for Volvo’s continued support as we help our clients lead the independent and fulfilled lives they deserve.”
ABVI provides vision rehabilitation training through our Own Your Life program in our Charleston and Ladson facilities as well as through virtual training. To learn more about ABVI, visit www.abvisc.org.
