The All Types of Media Arts Convention (ATOMACON) will return to North Charleston for its seventh annual event from May 7th to May 9th, 2021. Their planned November 2020 convention has been canceled due to COVID-19.

The family-friendly convention will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn on International Blvd. Attendees can enjoy panels on Costuming (Cosplay), Fringe Sciences, Science and Technology, Art and Music, Literature, Filmmaking, and general Fandom (such as Star Trek, Dr. Who, Star Wars, Marvel and DC Universes, and much more).

Their 3nd annual Independent Short Film Festival will show short films in the Sci-fi, Fantasy, and Horror Genres.

ATOMACON will feature Guest of Honor Catherine Asaro, who has written more than 25 books in science fiction, fantasy, and near-future thrillers. She earned her doctorate in chemical physics and master’s in physics, both at Harvard. Her works The Quantum Rose and The Spacetime Pool are both Nebula Award winners. In addition, the event will feature over 35 other guest authors, paranormal experts, artists, and filmmaking professionals.

Other features include a charity auction and raffle to benefit Toby’s Fund for sick and abused animals; Costume Contest, Vendor Room, Concerts, Virtual Reality Game demos, and over 130 hours of workshops, discussion panels, movie screenings, kid’s activities and many more interactive events.

Convention hours are Friday, 3 pm to midnight; Saturday, 10 am to midnight; Sunday 10 am to 3 pm. At the door, three-day convention passes are $40 for adults, $25 for teens 13-18, and children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Single day passes are also available. Advance early bird passes are available until January 2021 for $30. You can learn more at atomacon.org.
