New Restaurant Tempest Coming Soon

Published

on

The 5th Street Group, the team behind 5Church Charleston, today announced that its newest restaurant concept, Tempest, is scheduled to open in August on Market Street.

The new downtown eatery says they will offer sustainable South Atlantic seafood for lunch and dinner from Lowcountry fisherman, oyster farmers, and other purveyors.

“With each of our restaurant projects, our goal is to create an environment that is equal parts immersive, inspiring and satisfying,” Patrick Whalen, owner of Tempest, said. “We believe that Tempest will be no different, and the 5th Street Group cannot wait to welcome our first guests.”

Tempest will feature a one-of-a-kind, 700-square-foot stained-glass mosaic (see below) that will be suspended from the restaurant’s ceiling. Hand-crafted by local Charleston artist Honey McCrary, these panels are estimated to include over 100,000 pieces of glass, designed and fit together to tell a captivating story.  The restaurant’s seafaring design is inspired by and pays homage to the rich history of the building, originally constructed in 1916 as the Harriott Pinckney Home for Sailors, a boarding house for merchant marines to stay during a stopover in the Holy City.

Tempest will be located at 32C N. Market Street, next door to 5Church Charleston. For more information, visit www.TempestCharleston.com or follow the restaurant on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
