The Charleston Forum to Host Online Conversations with Local Police Chiefs
Local nonprofit, The Charleston Forum, is continuing the advancement of conversations about race in the community by hosting a discussion with two local police chiefs.
On Thursday, August 27th, The Charleston Forum will chat with Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds and North Charleston Police Chief Reginald L. Burgess about racial relations and criminal justice in the Lowcountry and across the state.
“It is imperative that we work together to discuss these issues and find solutions that will create real change for South Carolinians,” Chief Reynolds said. “Along with The Charleston Forum, we hope that South Carolina will be a leader at the forefront of these issues, and it takes leaders to step up and make that change happen.”
The Charleston Forum has adjusted their approach to addressing major Lowcountry racial issues because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the Forum’s annual event, which was held virtually this year, they have hosted several conversations online and plans to continue those efforts. The event on August 27th will be one of four conversations the Forum will host in the fall of 2020. Each conversation will focus on one of the Forum’s pillars – criminal justice, education, economics and the future of the past.
