WATCH: Marcus Amaker’s Performance for The Kennedy Center
On Thursday, Marcus Amaker, Charleston’s first Poet Laureate, virtually joined singer, songwriter, and cellist Shana Tucker of North Carolina for “Black is the New Black,” a live performance held in conjunction with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and South Arts. The full show can be viewed below.
Amaker and Tucker premiered a collaborative piece and presented solo works during their joint performance. The show is part of the “Arts Across America” series, a collaboration between The Kennedy Center and arts organizations from coast to coast. The series includes 20 weeks of free, online programming available on Facebook Live, YouTube, and on The Kennedy Center’s website.
