Gibbes Museum of Art to Host Virtual Town Hall on LGBTQ+ History in the Lowcountry
On Saturday, October 17th, the Gibbes Museum of Art will host “The Real Rainbow Row: LGBTQ+ History in the Lowcountry,” a virtual town hall.
This virtual event will discuss and grapple with the Lowcountry’s complicated history, the effects of a global pandemic, and racial injustice. Inspired by the Gibbes’ current special exhibition Building a Legacy: The Vibrant Vision Collection of Jonathan Green and Richard Weedman, this three-part series includes local artists and community stakeholders.
In partnership with the College of Charleston’s LGBTQ Archive, the Gibbes will highlight the Lowcountry’s long LGBTQ+ history and explore how LGBTQ+ stories are often underrepresented in historical narratives.
This event will take place on Zoom at 12 pm and is free and open to the public. To register, click here.
