Local Students Invited to Participate in Mayor’s Youth Commission Virtual Summit Series
Charleston-area students in grades 9-12 attending public, private, home, or virtual school are invited to participate in the Mayor’s Youth Commission’s Virtual Summit Series from 1 pm to 3 pm on Thursday, October 22, 2020.
Why it matters
This timely session–taking place during the current election–is themed “Your Voice, Your Future” and will give youth an understanding of the importance of civic engagement and how elections impact everyday life.
What to expect
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mayor’s Youth Commission’s annual spring Youth Summit was canceled and replaced with a Virtual Summit Series that will take place in three parts throughout the 2020-2021 school year via Zoom.
This first virtual session will feature guest speakers Rep. Joe Cunningham (SC-01), congressional candidate Nancy Mace and Chair of the Charleston County School District Board of Trustees Dr. Eric Mack, and will be followed by breakout sessions led by the Mayor’s Youth Commission, the Mayor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families, and AmeriCorps members, where participants will dive further into the topics discussed.
How to participate
All youth interested in participating must register by Tuesday, October 20th at 3 pm via this link: https://bit.ly/3jSPGaK
All attendees will be provided the Zoom link after registering.
