5 Ways to Entertain Yourself During the Pandemic

Published

on

One thing that’s so tough about the pandemic is that there are virtually no life aspects that it does not impact. It has caused many business closures and millions of lost jobs. It has forced movie theaters and gyms to close, and some still have not reopened.

Parents must figure out whether to send their children back to school, and if they don’t, they must look into online learning or homeschooling. Many individuals will not go into their favorite restaurants anymore because of Covid-19 concerns.

You might be okay for now. Let’s say you still have your job, or you’re working from home. Maybe you don’t have school-age kids, so you’re not so concerned about that.

At the very least, you might still struggle during your downtime, trying to come up with ways to entertain yourself. If so, here are some possibilities if you need inspiration.

You Can Buy a Motorcycle

If you’re a bit of a daredevil, maybe now is the time to get that motorcycle you’ve always wanted. It’s certainly not for everyone. In a recent year, 4,985 people died in motorcycle wrecks.

However, dire statistics aside, many people love motorcycle ownership. With it, you can:

  • Meet up with your friends and go on a cross-country trip
  • Experience the open road’s freedom

Some people who feel like their life is in a rut love hopping on their Harley and hitting the highway. They can roar down the back roads with the wind whipping past them. It’s a reminder that you’re alive, and while it’s not everyone’s idea of heaven, some people wouldn’t trade it for anything.

If you do buy a motorcycle, make sure you always wear a helmet when you ride. Don’t go out when there’s inhospitable weather. If you don’t know how to ride it yet, make sure you get adequate lessons before going out on your own.

Read Some Books

Maybe you’re not so adventure-minded. You can always have literary adventures just by opening up a new book and settling down on the couth with it. Reading is great because:

  • It allows you to explore new worlds
  • You can learn a lot of fascinating things
  • You can catch up on some English-language classics

Reading costs you very little since you can purchase physical books at bookstores, online, in thrift stores, and many other places. You can also use a Kindle or another reading-centric device if you’d prefer not to purchase a physical book anymore or borrow one from your local library. Either way is acceptable.

You might be into sci-fi or adventure. Maybe you prefer horror or Westerns. You could always get into historical fiction. Perhaps you don’t like fiction at all, and your style is more nonfiction.

Reading keeps the mind limber, and it’s an inexpensive hobby when a lot of people don’t have as much financial stability as they once did.

You Can Get a Streaming Service

You might miss going to the movies if the ones near you are not open again yet. Even if they are, perhaps you’re not willing to put a mask on and give them a try.

Many major Hollywood studios aren’t even releasing their biggest movies right now. They’ve pushed back the new James Bond movie multiple times, as well as “Wonder Woman 1984” and “Dune.” The movie industry is at a virtual standstill.

However, there are more streaming services than ever before. You might look into:

  • Disney+
  • Hulu
  • Sling
  • HBO NOW
  • Amazon Prime

There are dozens of others as well. Fewer and fewer people are sticking with cable these days. These bold cord-cutters want more shows for less money, and with many of these streaming services, they can get them. Cable is on the way out, and streaming services make sense for lots of individuals and families.

Once you’ve figured out which streaming service or services you want, you can catch up on all the shows and movies that most appeal to you. You might watch shows you missed, like “Game of Thrones” or “Breaking Bad.”

You Can Start Blogging

It could be that you’re having a lot of feelings right now. 2020 is the year when there seems to be more happening in this country than ever before. There’s the contentious presidential election, the Black Lives Matter movement, and so much more.

Perhaps you want to describe how you’re feeling about these things. If so, it’s easy to start a blog where you can talk about what’s happening with you and your family. You can create a Wix or WordPress website very easily, or you can hire someone to make one for you.

Blogging can be both entertaining and therapy for you. If something is on your mind, you can write about it, and it’s better than keeping it bottled up inside. You can also get feedback from people like your family and friends.

They can learn from your blog what’s going on with you, your mood, and how you’re coping during these tumultuous times. You might blog every week or set whatever schedule makes the most sense for you.

You Can Work on Some Art Projects

Art projects are another fun thing you can do during your downtime. You can get some paint and an easel, or you might get some color pencils or modeling clay.

Creative expression is a fun way to get your feelings out. Maybe you’ll discover you have a talent for it, or you may remember that you used to like art back in school.

Even if you don’t feel like you have a particular aptitude for it, that’s okay. You don’t have to show anyone the results if you don’t want to.

Human beings can easily become restless if we don’t have something to occupy our time. Maybe you’re working a lot, but that can’t be your whole life. You need to have other activities that will enthrall you, and perhaps some of the ones on this list sound like good possibilities for you.
